Erik is a Meteorologist and Associate Director of Education and Outreach for the Extreme Events Institute (EEI) and the International Hurricane Research Center (IHRC) at Florida International University (FIU) in Miami. Erik has been interviewed by many local, national, and international media outlets regarding the NSF-NHERI Wall of Wind and has over 25 years as a broadcast meteorologist forecasting hurricanes, tornadoes, and flooding. Erik testified to the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology in the hearing entitled "The Future of Forecasting: Building a Weather-Ready Nation on All Fronts," in 2021. In 2023, Erik was awarded the Lew Fincher Award by the National Tropical Weather Conference and was a finalist for Weatherperson of the Year by the Federal Alliance for Safe Homes (FLASH).
