Tampa Deep Sea Xplorers
TDSX was founded to create swarms of inexpensive Autonomous Underwater Drones (AUVs) to perform mapping, research, energy, environmental, and military operations in the deep sea. We have cultivated partnerships with advanced technology developers to provide an affordable platform to deploy cutting edge technology that cannot be deployed using currently available vehicles in the market.
The Barracuda AUV provides a data collection platform that can carry a wide range of sensors including side scan sonar, video, temperature, depth, pH, and other sensor technology. The AUV design includes a revolutionary lidar capability for obstacle avoidance and mapping developed in cooperation with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). TDSX has also participated in a subsea communications development for the DOD in collaboration with several other partners.
The current market for autonomous underwater vehicles is approximately 1.2 billion dollars worldwide with North America representing about 34% of the market. Small sized AUVs represent 25% of the total market and medium sized are 32%. The Barracuda AUV’s small size places it in the small AUV class, but its advanced features also make it competitive in the medium size AUV market. We believe that the Barracuda AUV will find traction in both markets which means that 57% of the available AUV market is potentially accessible.
