The Changing Face of International Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Management

The global humanitarian aid industry has become increasingly localized, politicized, professionalized and criticized in the last decade. What have these changed looked like and where is global disaster management and humanitarian action headed?

About Jennifer Neelsen

Jennifer Neelsen is Global Humanitarian Response Director for World Vision International, one of the worlds largest development and humanitarian response non-governmental agencies. Throughout her 15 year career, she has had both technical and leadership roles in fragile, conflict-affected contexts (Afghanistan, South Sudan, Iraq), displacement crises (Chad, Northern Uganda, Ethiopia) as well as in the wake of natural disasters (Turkiye, Nepal, Somalia).

Jennifer has expertise in leading large-scale, donor-funded international humanitarian responses, navigating the humanitarian coordination system, including working closely with the UN in disaster management.
