Leader, Mission Readiness and Deployment, Cisco Crisis Response

Cisco Crisis Response (CCR) is a highly skilled and dedicated team that can mobilize and respond to natural disasters and other situations when normal communications infrastructure have been degraded or destroyed. CCR supports mission-critical public safety, government, critical infrastructure and nonprofit organizations, with equipment and trained personnel, on pro-bono basis. The team leverages its experience in these environments to provide training and consulting on communications resiliency and field-deployable communications assets. Additionally, the team provides product and cash grants to approved nonprofits. 

Mr. Runyan joined Cisco in 1999 and has held various IT infrastructure roles, including: systems and storage administration, as well as datacenter, campus, and remote office network design, implementation and operation. 

Matt started with Cisco's Crisis Response team in 2006 as a volunteer, and has held a full-time role since 2010. His deployments include 5 trips to Haiti since the 2010 earthquake, Alabama for the 2011 tornadoes, the NY/NJ area for super storm Sandy, refugee crisis in Europe,  Hurricanes Maria, Florence, Michael, Dorian and Helene as well as numerous full-scale exercises. He now serves in a leadership capacity, responsible for deployable technology, personnel and operational support.

Outside Cisco, Mr. Runyan is a contract instructor for federal and state agencies, developing and delivering public safety communications courses, including: IT Service Unit Leader, Communications Unit Leader, JAMX / Resilient Communications, and PACE planning. 

Matt was also a volunteer Firefighter / EMT with Apex (NC) Fire Department, serving his community for over 17 years, and still functions as a credentialed COML (Communications Unit Leader) and COMC (Communications Coordinator) with North Carolina Emergency Management. Matt holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from North Carolina State University.
